Kyochon Fried Chicken at Hongdae (Hongik)

Kyochon Fried Chicken

I dropped by Kyochon Fried Chicken at Hongdae by coincidental. I had a plan before to eat at Kyochon Fried Chicken but didn’t plan to look for Hongdae branch, actually I wanted to eat at Dongdaemun Branch before. I shopped at Daiso and Miniso before felt so hungry. After that, I walked for a while and saw the amazing sign board of Kyochon Fried Chicken that made me starving directly.

Kyochon Fried Chicken has three promises

Everybody loves fried chicken, form adult people until little children, including myself as well. I mean who can resist the temptation of hot crispy fried chicken in the middle of cold wind?? I didn’t think twice anymore and got into the restaurant which was already crowded by local young Korean teenagers. I sat in the corner and ordered one bottle of Soju (to keep me warm form cold weather) and and Garlic Soy and Spicy Sauce Chicken. I counted my plate there were 13 pieces of chickens. The portion was huge that might be enough for 2 people. I was very full and satisfied with the food here.

Besides Soju, Kyochon Chicken also serves beer as you can see from the picture. And if restaurant guest does not want to order any drink, Kyochon Chicken also provides free water that people can refill as much as they want.

Besides chicken, Kyochon Chicken also gave free fruit side dish which complete the chicken very well. I have no idea what fruit it was but the side dish has sweet sour taste and was very fresh in my mouth after I ate the whole chicken. I could say that Kyochon Chicken could be the best fried chicken I had ever eaten in my life. Kyochon Chicken has tender, juicy meat with thin crispy texture skin that was freshly cooked after ordered that made my mouth watering again and again. Kyochon Chicken tasted mildly spicy, sweet and savory, the sauce and spice mixed very good.If I visit Seoul again next time, there is no doubt I will eat Kyochon Chicken again.

Kyochon Chicken Locations

Kyochon Chicken Locations have many branches at Korea, three most famous branches for tourists are Hongdae,Dongdaemun and Gangnam branches. To go to Dongdaemun branch, just ride metro subway to Dongdaemun Station then find exit 6 and Kyochon Chicken is on second floor of the building just as you exit. Dongdaemun Kyochon Chicken Restaurant opens 24 hours. For Hongdae Branch, just go to Hongik University Station then choose exit 9. Kyochon Chicken Cozy Restaurant Atmosphere

The restaurant atmosphere was very cozy and fast service. The foods were served very quickly,it didn’t took too long time and the waitress told me where to get the free cold water. Besides my table, it was a local Korean young teenagers who hangout cheerfully. When I went to queue at toilet, the group of young teenagers were very kind and even told me to go in toilet first although they have waited before my turn. It was very polite.

Kyochon Delivery

I am not sure will it taste the same for delivery because I have never try that before. I only ever try ate Kyochon Chicken at the restaurant. But if you cannot find any seats or restaurant is full at the time you come, why not try for Kyochon Delivery.

Hongik University Street or Seoul Hongdae Area

On the first day of my Seoul trip, the first place that I went to was the vibrant artistic Hongdae Area that was named after the nearby Hongik Daehakgyo (Hongik University Street) ,the famous art and architecture institution in South Korea.

Hongik University Street

This coolest neighborhood is surrounded by vibrant urban arts and cozy places(cafe, club, theaters, art galleries) for hangout. Hongik University Street is packed with young people. As night getting late, travelers can watch live music/dancing/hip hop/rap music street performances by local talented youth that still has no Facebook fanpages or Youtube channel videos. This area never sleeps.

Hongdae also has many venue stages for art drama choreography such as BBoy Theater that well known for award-winning musical show that called “Ballerina Who Loved A B-boy” (B-boy mean Break-Dancing Boy).

Hongdae Shopping Street

Hongdae foods price also inexpensive as seller main target market are university students. It’s too bad that I could not find the famous Hongdae Mural Street (Picasso’s Street) that often become dating spots for couples as I was lost and went to the wrong direction.

After walking around Hongik University Street, I spotted a cheap and delicious BBQ place instead of the Picasso’s Street..LOL..  (~ ̄▽ ̄)~

I met a very kind-heart Ahjumma(Auntie) here around Hongdae Shopping Street. Her food stall was number two from metro subway exit if I was not mistaken. The wind was very cold and strong at that time and I was only wearing a thin bomber jacket so I got red runny nose. When I stopped by to buy a skewer from her food stall, she saw I was shivering so she invited me to come inside her food stall because she has heater inside and she gave me a cup of hot soup to make me warm and said that I should wear a scarf to prevent me from cold weather. She also helped to wipe my snot using tissue. Then she wanted to gave me another cup of hot soup again which I declined politely as I felt shy to accept.

Hongdae Skewer Street Food

“Oh My God,” I talked to myself, this Ahjumma must be an angel. I was only a stranger who purchased one skewer from her that cost 2,000 Won but she was very kind to me. I was really touched by her kindness and thanked her deeply and promised myself that will be back to visit her food stall again next time I go to Seoul.
When I looked back at the picture that I took from her food stall, I realized that her skewers tasted very delicious but the price was very cheap(from 1,000 to 2,000 Won only) as I compared to other street food stalls that I bought the next days at other places. When I told all my family and friends about her, they feel very surprised and very curious about my experience meeting such a kind down to earth local Korean Auntie. “Kamsahamnida, Ahjumma !! ”  \( ̄▽ ̄)/

Hongik University Station

To get here, just go to Hongik University Station (Line 2) then exit 9. Hongdae also has Hongik Children’s Park which is also a popular spot for English Teachers and Korean Univ students to hangout.

As the center of youthful nightlife, since 2001, many clubs at Hongdae host event called “The Hongdae Club Day” which promote admittance for party clubbers to get into 11 clubs (includes 1 drink) by paying 15,000 Won ticket only on the last Friday of each month. I was too tired already that day so I skip the clubbing part. (。-_-。)

Namsan Park Seoul Tower

Namsan Park Seoul is also called as Namsan Seoul Tower or N Seoul Tower. Namsan Park is a really nice resting site to have peaceful quiet time.

Namsan Park Seoul

The hardest moment from exploring the beautiful Seoul city could be my experience at Namsan Park. Why? Well, because at that day, my ankle and knee were in great pain every time I moved them around. Did I sprain them accidentally? Perhaps..

I walked like an old person who needed a stick. Thank God that Seoul people did not knock me down as cannot be patient with me who walked too slow at subway station stairs. ಥ_ಥ

How To Go To Namsan Park?

Namsan Park Map from Subway Exit

After getting off from Hoehyeon Station exit 4 (Seoul Subway line 4) , I was lost in direction whether to walk forward or backward as there was no sign at street. So, I try my luck and walked forward.

After a while, I still saw nothing so I went back and walked in opposite direction. Well, after walked for 15 minutes, I still could not find the Namsan Park. Then I headed back to the subway station exit.  ┐(‘~`;)┌

As my stomach was hungry already, I decided to pop in the tiny local restaurant run by a little family located right in front of the subway exit.

Food price range between 3500-6500 Won. If you having difficulty what to order as all menu in Korean language, just point out the food pictures in front of the restaurant to the waiter as all written the price already.

The food here tasted like mom’s cooking with home made recipe. Simple and affordable. I ordered one spicy noodle and one spicy Tteokbokki. Nothing to complain from the price and cozy place. They also served free pickled fruit and kimchi as side dish as you can see from picture below. Drinking water is free here, guest can refill as many time as they want. How amazing was that? Delicious food with great price and nice eating place. \( ̄▽ ̄;)/

One thing that I fancy about Korean eating place is the little secret hidden in the left side of the table which has drawer to keep spoon and fork or chopsticks that guest can pull out so it really saving unnecessarily space.

After having my meal, I continued to walk forward from subway exit to search for Namsan Park.On my way there, I asked a local Korean uncle who was with his wife and two cute little kids. He was very kind. He stopped to help me and asked his wife and kids to wait there and get his smart phone out to try search using map in Korean and told me which way to go. I thanked him and continued my journey.

Namsan Park Seoul

After awhile, I saw a bridge above from main road which has many tourist buses stopped there. In my mind, I has this thought that it must be headed to a sightseeing place which might be Namsan Park so I didn’t wait much longer and climb the little stairs directly. Well, my guessing was correct, finally I found Namsan Park.

The hardest thing to explore the gorgeous Namsan Park was because the layout of Namsan Park with so many rock stairs to the top of Namsan Mountain. I was so upset with myself why I was not in fit condition when I reached there.

There is a cable car service to the top which cost 6,000 Won(one way) for an adult and 3,500 Won(one way) for kid but I decided not to take it. For round trip, the cost is 8,000 Won (adults) and 5,000 Won (kid)

I ended up hiking the stairway path step by step to reach the top of hill. That was pretty ridiculous but then I realized I did not regret it when I saw the excellent view at the peak. The sunset was so amazing and the air was so fresh.I took a deep breathe several times. I fell in love at first sight with the spectacular view of Namsan Park and it has a special place in my heart.   ♪☆v(⌒o⌒)v♪
